2019 - The Allora Regional Sports Museum is open on Sundays 12:30 to 4pm or can be opened with booking!

ALLORA REGIONAL SPORTS MUSEUM

78 Herbert Street, Allora QLD

Housing and displaying unique local, regional, Australian and International Sporting Memorabilia. The museum also features a 'Hall of Fame' display showcasing local Sports Stars who have represented at the highest levels. Allora’s most noted sporting achievers, former international netballer Laura Geitz is the Social face of the Allora Regional Sports Museum.

On the lawn of the museum is a plaque (and eventually a statue of Laura Geitz) which marks the location of the Allora time capsule. Originally buried on 8th October 1969 to mark the centenary of Local Government in Allora, it was to be opened during the bi-centenary celebrations of Allora in 2069. 

​

It was instead opened on Saturday, July 20th 2019 during the town's 150 years celebrations and the contents were put on display in the sports museum until a new capsule was made and was re-buried on Saturday, 27th July 2019.

​

The current capsule contents include the original contents placed in it in 1969 along with a host of other items including artwork from school children, a photo record of the 150 years celebrations, a flag, newspapers and many other items from Allora in 2019.

The original time capsule plaque from 1969 is worded:

Allora Shire Council

This capsule was officially buried by Cr F.A. Rogers President of the Darling Downs Local Government Association on 8th October 1969 to mark the centenary of Local Government in Allora. To be opened during the bi-centenary celebrations of Allora in 2069.

Olympics Torch. Presented to commemorate Allora being a host community for the Olympic Torch Relay en route to light the cauldron for the Olympic Games in Sydney, 2000.
